Category 5 Hurricane Melissa Ravages Western Jamaica

Kuwait city: The extremely dangerous Category 5 Hurricane Melissa is currently making its way across Western Jamaica, bringing with it catastrophic winds, flash flooding, and storm surges that have caused widespread havoc on the island.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the US National Hurricane Center reported that the eye of Hurricane Melissa is currently positioned over western Jamaica near latitude 18.2 North, longitude 78.0 West. The hurricane is moving north-northeast at approximately 8 mph (13 km/h), with expectations of a turn toward the northeast and an increase in forward speed later today.

The Center further noted that the forecast track indicates Hurricane Melissa's core will continue crossing western Jamaica over the next few hours before returning to the Caribbean Sea. Subsequently, the hurricane's center is projected to move across southeastern Cuba by early Wednesday morning and proceed to the southeastern or central Bahamas later on Wednesday.
