Canada Lifts Tariffs on Several American Goods

Kuwait city: Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney declared on Friday that his nation is cancelling custom tariffs on many American products effective September 1. Carney, speaking at a news conference, excerpts of which were broadcast by the American media, said the products are covered by the North America free trade agreement that involves the two nations plus Mexico.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Canada will retain the levies on imported US steel, aluminum, and cars. The prime minister added that his country enjoys a preferential status with the US regarding fees, as the duties are in the range of 5.6 percent, the lowest among the US trade partners.

Canada has slapped high tariffs reaching 25 percent on a wide range of US goods in retaliation for a US decision to impose 35 percent worth of tariffs on the American imports.
