London: The United Kingdom has imposed sanctions on senior commanders of Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), citing their involvement in mass killings, systematic sexual violence, and deliberate attacks on civilians within the country.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Abdul Rahim Hamdan Dagalo, the RSF Deputy Leader and brother of RSF commander Mohamad Hamdan Dagalo, known as Hemedti, along with three other commanders, are now subject to asset freezes and travel bans as a result of these allegations. The British government announced these measures in response to the serious human rights violations attributed to these individuals.
Foreign minister Yvette Cooper stated, "The atrocities taking place in Sudan are so horrific they scar the conscience of the world." She emphasized that the sanctions directly target those responsible for these crimes. In addition to the sanctions, the British government committed an additional 21 million pounds to provide essential aid, including food, shelter, health services, and protection for women and children in some of the most inaccessible areas of Sudan, highlighting its ongoing humanitarian efforts in the region.
