Britain Invests GBP-12-Million in Hypersonic Missile Development

London: The United Kingdom announced a GBP-12-million investment with engineering contractor, Amentum UK, to accelerate the development of hypersonic missiles and systems. This move is aimed at enhancing national security and bolstering the industrial partnership with NATO allies.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the Ministry of Defense released a statement indicating that this initiative would play a significant role in strengthening national security. The investment is part of a broader strategy to advance the UK's capabilities in modern warfare.

Minister of Defense Readiness and Industry Luke Pollard emphasized the urgency of adapting to new threats by stating, "In this new era of threat, we need a new era for defence. This means moving quicker to develop and buy the cutting-edge technologies our Armed Forces need for modern warfighting." He further noted that the contract would not only accelerate the UK's development of sovereign hypersonic missile capability but also support British workers.

Since 2024, the hypersonic program has seen contracts awarded totaling GBP 48 million, with a substantial portion of the funds directed towards small to medium-sized enterprises.
