Blinken confirms Washington’s willingness to cooperate with Russia for the settlement in Ukraine

The US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, said that Washington is ready to cooperate with Moscow for a settlement in Ukraine, claiming that he does not see any desire for that on the part of Russia.

“We desperately want to see peace,” Blinken said today, Thursday, during a hearing of the US House of Representatives, “but it must be a lasting and just peace.”

He added, “If we see any indications that Russia is ready and willing to engage in meaningful diplomacy to end this aggression, we will seize them…. Unfortunately, we have not noticed any such signs yet.”

It is noteworthy that last February, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced a “position paper” on a political settlement of the crisis in Ukraine, and it included 12 items, including calls for a ceasefire, respect for the legitimate interests of all countries in the field of security, and a settlement of the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, the exchange of prisoners of war between Moscow and Kiev, as well as the refusal to impose unilateral sanctions without a corresponding resolution of the UN Security Council.

Russian President Vladimir Putin also announced, after his talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping last Tuesday, that many points of the Chinese peace plan for Ukraine can be considered as a basis for a settlement when the West and Kiev are ready for that.
