Biden Announces Ceasefire Deal Between Israel and Hezbollah, No US Troops to Be Deployed.

WASHINGTON: US President Joe Biden announced on Tuesday that a ceasefire agreement has been reached between Israel and Hezbollah, bringing an end to the ongoing conflict. In a speech delivered at the White House, Biden confirmed that both the Israeli and Lebanese governments have accepted the United States' proposal to halt hostilities, emphasizing that lasting peace cannot be achieved solely through military means. According to Kuwait News Agency, the ceasefire will take effect at 4:00 a.m. local time tomorrow, marking a permanent cessation of fighting along the Lebanese-Israeli border. The agreement stipulates that Hezbollah and other terrorist organizations will not be permitted to threaten Israel's security. Over the next 60 days, the Lebanese Army and State Security Forces will be deployed to regain control of their territory, while Israel will gradually withdraw its forces. This arrangement is aimed at allowing civilians to safely return to their communities and begin rebuilding their lives. Biden und erscored that no US troops will be deployed in southern Lebanon, aligning with his commitment to avoid involving American forces in combat in this conflict. Instead, the United States, with support from France and other allies, will provide assistance to ensure the full implementation of the ceasefire. The President also stated that Israel retains the right to self-defense if the deal is violated, while the agreement supports Lebanon's sovereignty and offers a chance for a more secure and prosperous future. The President concluded by highlighting the broader implications of the deal, noting that, like the Lebanese people, the residents of Gaza also deserve an end to violence and displacement, signaling hopes for a more peaceful future in the region.
