Kuwait City: Belgian Ambassador to Kuwait Christian Dooms affirmed on Monday his endeavor to increase bilateral relations with Kuwait in several fields, especially medical, health, and tourism. This announcement was made during a press conference where Dooms outlined plans to host a collection of Francophone cultural and artistic events starting early next week. These events, scheduled to run for two weeks, will feature classical musical evenings, poetry, and art, in collaboration with French-speaking countries' embassies throughout Kuwait.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Ambassador Dooms emphasized his intention to boost visits to discuss cooperation in various sectors. He also mentioned plans to attract Belgian companies to encourage trade between the two nations. Despite existing direct flights between Kuwait and Belgium, Dooms expressed a commitment to promoting Belgium as a tourist destination for Kuwaitis, highlighting its unique sights, experiences, and famous products.
Reflecting on the strong diplomatic ties, Dooms noted that Belgium and Kuwait celebrated 60 years of diplomatic relations last year through numerous events organized by the National Council for Culture, Arts, and Letters (NCCAL). This year, the Belgian embassy will join forces with the La Francophonie organization to celebrate the French language globally, with a special focus on Kuwait, where French is widely taught across various academic levels.
Dooms revealed that over half a million people in Kuwait are learning French, with half of them being Kuwaitis. He pointed out that the upcoming events aim to integrate both French and Arabic cultures, marking a significant cultural exchange initiative for the next week.
