Kuwait city: Bangladesh authorities announced on Sunday that they have sent another official letter to India, seeking the repatriation of Sheikh Hasina, who has been sentenced to death for crimes against humanity. According to Kuwait News Agency, Bangladesh Foreign Adviser Md Touhid confirmed that a letter was dispatched on Friday in response to media queries about the repatriation request to India. The letter was reportedly sent through the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi, based on information from an official source at the foreign ministry. The International Crimes Tribunal has sentenced Hasina and her home minister, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, to death for committing crimes against humanity during the mass uprising in July, which led to the overthrow of Hasina's government and her subsequent flight to India. The Adviser noted that Bangladesh intends to pursue its request under the existing extradition treaty with India, further expressing dissatisfaction over India's lack of response to earlier requ ests from Dhaka for Hasina's return. "Now the situation is different. The judicial process has been completed, and they have been convicted," he stated. Following Sheikh Hasina's death sentence by the International Crimes Tribunal of Bangladesh on November 17, India reiterated its commitment to the welfare of Bangladesh. The Indian External Affairs Ministry stated, "As a close neighbour, India remains committed to the best interests of the people of Bangladesh, including in peace, democracy, inclusion, and stability in that country. We will always engage constructively with all stakeholders to that end." Sheikh Hasina has been residing in New Delhi since she fled Bangladesh amidst the mass protests that led to the downfall of her government.
