Bahrain participates in World No Tobacco Day

Health Ministry participates in World No Tobacco Day on May 31, under the theme “Grow food, not tobacco”.

The World Health Organization (WHO) affirmed that tobacco cultivation damaged the health of farmers and the planet’s health.

WHO encourages governments to end tobacco growing subsidies and use the savings to support farmers to switch to more sustainable crops that improve food security and nutrition.

The World No Tobacco Day aims to raise awareness on the dangers of tobacco consumption and draw global attention to the tobacco epidemic and its preventable consequences.

Bahrain joined WHO Convention on Tobacco Control in 2007. The Kingdom has since been working on implementing the provisions of the agreement, through the National Committee to Control Smoking and All Types and Products of Tobacco, which has made great efforts in raising awareness on the dangers smoking among the society.
