Manama: Bahrain's Foreign Minister Abdullatif Al-Zayani expressed the Kingdom's commitment to Syria's stability, independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, aiming to achieve peace and security while addressing the aspirations of the Syrian people. This statement was made during a press conference alongside his Syrian counterpart Asaad Al-Shaibani, coinciding with the visit of Syria's President Ahmad Al-Sharaa to Bahrain.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Bahrain's King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa engaged in extensive discussions with President Al-Sharaa, with the presence of Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Bahrain's Crown Prince and Prime Minister. The discussions emphasized the strong ties between Bahrain and Syria and explored avenues for cooperation in sectors such as trade, civil aviation, energy, health, and education.
Al-Zayani highlighted that King Hamad reassured President Al-Sharaa of Bahrain's steadfast support for Syria's sovereignty and efforts toward restoring peace and stability. The King also pledged support for Syria in regaining its regional and international role and in its endeavors to lift economic sanctions. Furthermore, King Hamad praised the new Syrian leadership's initiatives to unify the Syrian populace and the positive outcomes of Syria's National Dialogue Conference in addressing national challenges.
Bahrain's leader also stressed the significance of regional initiatives, particularly the Bahrain Summit, in fostering Arab solidarity and promoting comprehensive peace efforts. Al-Zayani mentioned that the King called for continuous consultation and coordination between the two nations and advocated for reviewing existing agreements and memoranda of understanding.
Al-Shaibani described the visit as a pivotal moment in bilateral relations, fostering a new era of mutual trust and respect. He acknowledged Bahrain's unwavering support for Syrians and reaffirmed the deep-rooted relationship between the two countries, noting that Bahrain was among the first to send official letters, particularly the letter from His Majesty the King to President Al-Sharaa.
The Syrian diplomat reiterated Syria's dedication to enhancing cooperation with Bahrain, especially in economic development, investment, and post-conflict reconstruction. Al-Shaibani also reaffirmed Syria's commitment to preserving its unity and sovereignty, rejecting any foreign interference aiming to divide the nation. He emphasized the regional necessity of lifting economic sanctions, as stability in Syria would positively impact regional security and reduce risks related to migration, poverty, and extremism.
