Canberra: Anthony Albanese, Australia's Prime Minister, warned against escalation in the Middle East, calling on Tehran to abandon its nuclear program. In a video on X, Albanese expressed his country's deep concern over the current situation in the region, calling for de-escalation in light of the recent development connected with Iran.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Albanese highlighted that Iran should not obtain nuclear weapons, stating that the recent US strike on Iran had targeted the heart of the Iranian nuclear program. He emphasized Australia's support for diplomacy and its opposition to any form of escalation, reiterating the nation's concern over the situation in the Middle East.
Albanese underscored the importance of returning to the negotiation table to resolve the issue and urged Iran to abandon any military applications related to its nuclear program. He claimed that Iran had repeatedly failed to comply with international resolutions regarding its program, stressing that Tehran should take additional measures to ensure regional security.
The report also noted that Iran and the US were scheduled to hold their sixth round of negotiations on Tehran's nuclear program in Oman on June 15. However, the situation escalated when the Israeli occupation struck Iran on June 13, increasing tensions in the Middle East and prompting the US to carry out airstrikes on June 22 against three nuclear facilities in Iran.
