Doha: The State of Kuwait Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights, Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Ibrahim Duaij Al-Sabah, on Wednesday affirmed that women are capable of taking on key mediating and peacebuilding roles.
According to Kuwait News Agency, this statement was made during a side event focused on women's role in peacebuilding: voices from the Arab region. The event was organized by the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the League of Arab States and UN Women, coinciding with the Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha.
Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Al-Sabah emphasized the need to reshape women's image in the media, pointing out that they are often depicted as victims despite their significant capabilities in mediation and peacebuilding. She remarked on the evolving roles of women in GCC countries, highlighting their presence on the frontlines, including in the military, and their contributions beyond the realms of politics and diplomacy.
Sheikha Jawaher further illustrated the substantial impact women have in mediation and diplomacy, citing their active participation in conflict zones and their competence in handling the most challenging situations effectively.
The Second World Summit for Social Development commenced on Tuesday in Doha, Qatar, and is scheduled to continue over three days.
