Cairo: The Arab League, on its 80th anniversary, addressed the ongoing regional challenges that continue to threaten Arab national security. Abul Gheit expressed concerns over the Arab world's condition, emphasizing that the region has been subjected to threats from both nearby neighbors and distant forces, as well as unwarranted interference in the affairs of its nations.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Gheit highlighted several pressing issues impacting various Arab countries. He noted that some countries face existential threats, while others are plagued by internal divisions or civil wars. He cited Sudan as an example, describing it as an "open wound" due to a war-induced severe humanitarian crisis that threatens the state's entity and the unity of national institutions. Despite these challenges, he expressed confidence in the Sudanese people's ability to overcome this historic ordeal.
Gheit also addressed the situation in Yemen, attributing the confrontations and suffering to the actions of the Houthis. He urged the Houthis to engage in efforts to reunite Yemen, stressing the impossibility of continuing under the current conditions. In Libya, he acknowledged the ongoing divisions but expressed hope that all parties would prioritize national interests over personal agendas.
The Arab League's support for the Somali government in defending national sovereignty was reaffirmed, and Gheit called for solidarity with Syria to help it overcome its "difficult condition." He expressed optimism that the lifting of American sanctions could foster a favorable economic climate, enabling Syrians to confidently face their future.
Gheit concluded by expressing hope for Lebanon's recovery, sovereignty restoration, and the consolidation of weapons under state control amidst ongoing Israeli aggression.
