Beirut: Arab League Secretary General Ahmad Abul-Gheit affirmed on Tuesday that the Arab League continues its role towards backing Lebanon and its new leadership to achieve sovereignty, security, and stability.
According to Kuwait News Agency, this statement came after Abul-Gheit's visit to Lebanon to congratulate the new Lebanese President Joseph Aoun on his presidency. He emphasized the urgency of forming a new government that would take concrete steps towards meeting the people's requirements. This approach aims to put Lebanon on the right path, keeping it away from external tensions and conflicts while strengthening its relations with its Arab neighbors on sound foundations.
During the visit, Abul-Gheit extended his best wishes to President Aoun for success in leading the Lebanese people and praised the confidence he gained from them. He also met with Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament Nabih Berri and Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati.
In his discussions with Lebanese leaders, Abul-Gheit remarked that this is a new chapter for Lebanon to recover and rebuild. He highlighted the importance of restoring confidence among its people and launching new initiatives towards achieving state sovereignty.
