Cairo: The Arab League Council's extraordinary session, at the level of permanent representatives, began Wednesday and discussed Arab and international efforts to force the Israeli occupation to halt its crimes and aggression against Palestinians. The session was chaired by Yemen, the current president of the council at the ministerial level.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Yemen's representative, Minister Plenipotentiary Najwa Al-Saryan, emphasized in her speech before the session that the Israeli occupation's attack on Gaza is a blatant defiance of international law and international humanitarian law. Al-Saryan stated that the occupation violated the truce and killed Palestinians during Ramadan while they were awaiting negotiations to maintain the truce, which shows it does not respect international law and is not part of the peace process. She emphasized that the occupation's persistence in its policy of killing, displacement, and starvation is evidence of its continued rejection of the Arab Peace Initiative, which was approved by the Arab states at the Beirut Summit in 2002.
Palestinian Representative, Ambassador Muhannad Al-Aklouk, called on all countries of the world to fulfill their legal obligations to protect the Palestinian people and prohibit economic and military cooperation with the Israeli occupation. Al-Aklouk questioned how a government kills 18,000 innocent Palestinian children for no reason and mutilates more than 20,000 other children over the course of 17 consecutive months. He emphasized that the occupation seeks to seize Arab natural resources, threatens water and economic security, works to obliterate Arab identity, and seeks to impose Israeli sovereignty, just as it divided and controlled the Ibrahimi Mosque in the city of Hebron in the occupied West Bank.
Kuwait's Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Ambassador Talal Al-Mutairi, headed the Kuwaiti delegation at the session.
