Cairo: Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmad Abul-Gheit expressed concerns on Sunday about recent proposals to dismantle the organization, emphasizing that such actions could enable foreign entities to exert influence in the region.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Abul-Gheit addressed reporters during the launch of the Saleh Kamel Scholarship, where he stressed the potential consequences of dissolving the league. He warned that eliminating the Arab League could allow "foreign or unwelcome forces" to gain control over the region.
Abul-Gheit argued that maintaining the Arab League is crucial for the region's stability and unity. He criticized the calls for ending the bloc and emphasized the need to preserve the institutional Arab entity. The Secretary-General highlighted that for the Arab League to emulate the European Union (EU), it requires comprehensive reforms akin to those provided to the European Commission and the EU Presidency.
