Cairo: Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmad Abulgheit affirmed on Tuesday that consolidating the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip requires continued pressure on Israeli occupation forces to lift the arbitrary restrictions imposed on the entry of humanitarian aid.
According to Kuwait News Agency, this statement came during Abul-Gheit's meeting with UN Deputy Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Ramiz Alakbarov, and UN Assistant Secretary-General and Director of the UNDP Regional Bureau for Arab States, Abdullah Al-Dardari. They convened to discuss developments in the Gaza Strip and ongoing UN efforts to address the worsening humanitarian crisis.
During the meeting, Abulgheit listened to the UN officials' assessments of the humanitarian situation in Gaza since the ceasefire on October 10. The discussion highlighted the continued obstacles imposed by the Israeli occupation, which restrict the entry of essential goods into Gaza under the pretext of classifying them as "dual-use." The Secretary-General emphasized the urgency of lifting these restrictions to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza, noting that large quantities of essential supplies remain stockpiled at the crossings.
He further stressed the importance of any Security Council resolution being based on the agreed-upon international terms of reference for the peace process. Abulgheit underscored the necessity for such resolutions to reflect the unity of a Palestinian State encompassing both the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
