Cairo: Arab League Secretary General Ahmad Abul-Gheit has made a strong appeal to the international community, urging it to exert pressure on the Israeli occupation to cease the ongoing exploitation of Palestinian resources. This exploitation is seen as an attempt to weaken Palestinian authority and obstruct the path to Palestinian independence.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Arab League spokesperson Jamal Rushdie relayed that Abul-Gheit's call came during a meeting with Palestinian envoy to the league, Ambassador Muhannad Aklouk. During this meeting, Ambassador Aklouk delivered a letter from Palestinian Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Dr. Mohammad Mustafa, which highlighted the severe financial crisis affecting the Palestinian people. The crisis is attributed to the occupation's seizure of more than two-thirds of tax funds and Palestinian customs revenues.
Abul-Gheit emphasized that it is the responsibility of the international community to support the Palestinian authority during these challenging times. He noted that bolstering the capacity of the Palestinian authority to resist the measures imposed by the occupation is essential for the realization of a Palestinian state and serves as a practical means of supporting the Palestinian people.
