Cairo: The Arab League and Yemen have officially signed an agreement focusing on the regulation of pan-Arab overland goods transport. This significant development was finalized on Thursday, marking a milestone in the collaborative efforts to enhance trade and transportation among Arab nations. The agreement had previously received approval from both the Arab Economic and Social Council and the League's council in 2012. According to Kuwait News Agency, the agreement was signed by Yemeni Minister of Transport Abdulasalam Humaid and the Arab League's Assistant Secretary-General for Legal Affairs, Mohammad Wield Kik. The league announced the signing through a press release, emphasizing the agreement's potential to facilitate goods transport across Arab countries by eliminating existing restrictions and obstacles. The agreement aims to unify the rules governing international goods transport among the participating countries. It addresses critical aspects such as the documentation used in international transp ort, the responsibilities of carriers, the protection of various parties' rights, and the provision of immediate solutions to conflicts. This unified approach is expected to streamline processes and boost efficiency in the transport sector. As outlined in the agreement, it will come into effect 30 days following the submission of ratification documents by three signatory Arab countries, in accordance with Article 64. Yemen joins Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Morocco as the fourth Arab country to ratify this agreement, showcasing a growing regional commitment to enhancing economic collaboration through improved transport regulation.
