Arab Electronic Media Authorities Convene in Cairo to Enhance Digital Media Regulation

Cairo: The 22nd session of the Arab Electronic Media Committee commenced on Sunday, bringing together representatives from various Arab media authorities in a concerted effort to regulate and develop digital media. The agenda focuses on promoting the safe and responsible use of electronic platforms across the region.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Dr. Haider Al-Jubouri, Director of the Technical Secretariat of the Council of Arab Information Ministers, emphasized that the meeting is a precursor to the 104th Arab Media Committee session and the 22nd Executive Bureau session in Kuwait. Dr. Al-Jubouri highlighted the influential role electronic media plays in shaping Arab public opinion, owing to its rapid information dissemination capabilities and its potential to foster interaction, transparency, and community participation on a regional scale.

Dr. Al-Jubouri underscored the necessity of developing unified Arab regulatory frameworks that can keep pace with the swift digital transformation in media governance and content production. He advocated for innovation, accountability, and the maintenance of consistent professional standards across platforms, both regionally and internationally. He also expressed optimism that the meeting would result in practical recommendations for advancing the regulation and development of Arab digital media. Moreover, he lauded the UAE for launching the committee's official website, which aims to bolster coordinated institutional cooperation efforts across the region.

The meeting's agenda includes discussions on cybersecurity measures designed to protect Arab platforms from cyberattacks, a review of specialized committee membership, and an assessment of risks associated with violent or extremist electronic games. Additionally, participants will examine a draft book on Arab electronic media and institutional utilization.

Other topics of discussion include a proposed Arab model law for regulating digital media, training to enrich the committee's website with national content, and consideration of a UAE initiative to host a 2026 training session focused on engineering in the era of artificial intelligence.

Kuwait is actively participating in the meeting, represented by a delegation from the Ministry of Information's External Media Sector. This participation underscores Kuwait's commitment to Arab media coordination and its support for shared digital transformation goals across regional institutional frameworks.
