Kuwait city: The 2025 Arab Chess Championship for men and women commenced in Kuwait on Monday and will continue until November 25. A total of 87 players from 18 Arab countries are participating in this prestigious event. According to Kuwait News Agency, the opening ceremony was graced by the presence of Sheikh Khalid Al-Qasimi, President of the Arab Chess Federation, along with Acting Director of Kuwait's Public Authority for Sport, Bashar Abdullah, and several Arab diplomats stationed in Kuwait. Bashar Abdullah expressed his pride in the Arab Chess Federation's decision to choose Kuwait as the host for this championship, which aligns with the country's continuous efforts to promote sports. Chair of the Championship's Organizing Committees, Dr. Amal Al-Kout, emphasized that the event serves as a platform to unite Arab nations under the banner of sport, intellect, and fair competition. Head of the Referees Committee, Khalaf Al-Azmi, detailed that the championship comprises nine rounds, with the first round h aving already commenced on Monday. Each player is given 90 minutes of playing time. The countries participating in the championship include Kuwait, Egypt, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, Yemen, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, Libya, Somalia, and Palestine.
