Algeria, Iran FMs Discuss Israeli Occupation Aggression on Iran

Istanbul: Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf and his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi on Sunday discussed the Israeli occupation aggression on Iran and its impacts on regional peace and security. This discussion took place on the sidelines of the 51st meeting of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) foreign ministers in Istanbul.

According to Kuwait News Agency, during the meeting, the Algerian foreign minister reiterated Algeria's commitment to promoting a political and peaceful approach based on international legitimacy rules and the UN Charter to prevent further regional tensions and tragedies. Algeria currently holds a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council (UNSC).

The context of the meeting is underscored by recent developments, as Iran's capital Tehran and other cities have been subjected to airstrikes by Israeli occupation warplanes since June 13. In response, Iran has retaliated by firing missiles at Israeli occupation sites, escalating tensions in the region.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump announced early Sunday that American forces had struck three nuclear sites in Iran, describing the operation as "a spectacular military success" and issuing a warning that further attacks would be ordered if Tehran did not agree to a deal.
