Kuwait City: The 38th Ordinary Session of the African Union (AU) Assembly of the Heads of State and Government began at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on Saturday. This significant event marks a gathering of leaders from across the continent.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the two-day summit is organized under the theme for 2025: "Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations." A primary focus of the summit is the election of a new AU commission chairman. The candidates vying for this position hail from Kenya, Djibouti, and Madagascar.
The selection process for the AU commission chairman requires the winning candidate to secure at least two thirds of the votes from AU member states, a task that necessitates forming regional and strategic alliances.
