Dubai: The World Governments Summit 2025, kicked off Tuesday in Dubai, with the participation of official delegations and experts from various countries, under the slogan "Foreseeing Future Governments." In his opening speech at the summit, UAE Minister of Cabinet Affairs and the summit's Chairman Mohammad Al-Gergawi said the developments that the next 25 years will bring would surpass everything that humanity has witnessed in history.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Al-Gergawi highlighted the transformative phase the world is experiencing, emphasizing the need to look back at the past 25 years to better anticipate the changes of the next quarter-century. He pointed out the significant growth in the global population from 6 billion in 2000 to 8.2 billion today, as well as the expansion of international trade from USD 7 trillion to USD 13 trillion in 2024. The shift from traditional industries like oil and heavy manufacturing to technology and digital platforms was also noted as a key development.
Al-Gergawi further elaborated on technological advancements, stating that internet usage has surged from 7 percent of the global population in 2000 to 60 percent today, with five billion people now online. Additionally, the value of digital currencies has grown from zero to 3 trillion dollars over the past 25 years. He stressed the need for new tools, methodologies, and visions to navigate this new phase in human history, calling for decisive action from governments, organizations, companies, and individuals.
The summit also sees participation from the State of Kuwait, led by His Highness Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. Participants at the summit will focus on enhancing cooperation to tackle global challenges by prioritizing innovation and sustainability as core elements for future governance.
The World Government Summit, which is hosted annually by Dubai, has established itself as a premier platform for bringing together governments, international organizations, and experts.
