WHO Reports 1,600 Fatalities in Sudan Health Facility Attacks in 2025

Geneva: The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, announced that the WHO has recorded 65 attacks on health facilities in Sudan in the year 2025. These attacks have resulted in the deaths of over 1,600 individuals and injuries to 276 others. According to Kuwait News Agency, Ghebreyesus shared on a social media platform (X) that the latest incidents occurred in the city of Dalanj, located in South Kordofan State, on December 14. This particular attack led to the deaths of nine people and injuries to 17 others, including one healthcare worker. Ghebreyesus emphasized that each new attack further restricts the population's access to essential health services and medications, especially when medical needs are urgent and cannot be delayed until facilities are rebuilt or services are restored. He stressed the importance of safeguarding healthcare facilities and their workers, ensuring that civilians can access medical services without hindrance.
