WHO Lauds Kuwait’s Efforts in Combating Chronic Diseases

Cairo: An official from the World Health Organization (WHO) has praised Kuwait's significant contributions to medical research, highlighting its award for the control of cardiovascular diseases and diabetes as a pivotal example of encouraging scientific advancements.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Director of WHO's Program Management for the Eastern Mediterranean Region, Dr. Adham Rashad, expressed his admiration for Kuwait's leading role in supporting medical research. He emphasized the impact of the award in promoting scientific and medical research on both regional and international fronts. Dr. Rashad was speaking in Cairo during the 72nd session of the WHO's Eastern Mediterranean Region.

The continuation of this initiative, he noted, underscores Kuwait's commitment to improving public health and enhancing the capabilities of researchers tackling chronic health issues. The Kuwaiti prize, initiated in 2003, is awarded annually to outstanding research focused on controlling cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and diabetes.

Over the past 12 years, the prize has significantly enriched the Arab and international medical research landscape by recognizing exceptional work and fostering collaboration among scientific and medical institutions. Dr. Rashad pointed out that this initiative exemplifies a successful partnership between national entities and international organizations, positively impacting the advancement of medical sciences and the enhancement of life quality.

In a ceremony held alongside the WHO's 72nd session, Kuwaiti Minister of Health Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi presented the Kuwaiti prize for control of cardiovascular diseases and diabetes to Dr. Noor Al-Busaidi of Oman and Dr. Majid Mobarhan of Iran.
