WHO Chief Announces Al-Amal Hospital in Khan Younis Out of Service

Khan Younis: The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, announced that Al-Amal Hospital in Khan Younis, Gaza, is now “essentially out of service” due to intensified bombardment by Israeli occupation forces in the surrounding areas.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Ghebreyesus confirmed in a post on X that access to the hospital is obstructed, preventing patients and the wounded from receiving care, which could lead to more preventable deaths. He highlighted that Nasser Medical Complex is now the only facility in Khan Younis with an intensive care unit after Al-Amal Hospital ceased operations.

Ghebreyesus noted that although patients in need of care remain at Al-Amal, the hospital can no longer receive new cases. He mentioned that two emergency medical teams, one national and the other international, are still striving to assist the remaining patients with the limited medical supplies available.

He called for an immediate ceasefire, protection of health facilities, and unimpeded access to essential medicines and medical supplies.
