Washington: We Are Concerned About The “Horrific Violence” in Sudan

Washington condemned human rights violations in Sudan, blaming the Rapid Support Forces, led by Lieutenant General Muhammad Hamdan Dagalo, known as “Hemedti”.

A State Department spokesman said the United States condemned “in the strongest terms” human rights violations and abuses and “Horrific violence” in Sudan during the nearly two-month-old war in the country.

Spokesman Matthew Miller said, in a statement, that the United States is particularly concerned about reports of ethnic violence perpetrated by the Rapid Support Forces and allied armed groups in West Darfur.

Miller stressed that while the atrocities are “attributed primarily to the Rapid Support Forces and affiliated armed groups, the Sudanese armed forces” have failed to protect civilians and have reportedly provoked conflict by encouraging tribal mobilization.
