Washington: The US and the UK on Tuesday denounced recent death sentences issued by Yemen's Houthi militia against 17 Yemeni individuals for alleged espionage.
According to Kuwait News Agency, both the US and UK embassies issued separate press releases stating that these trials underscore the Houthi militia's ongoing efforts to intimidate and instill fear among the Yemeni populace. The statements further criticized the arbitrary arrests conducted by the Houthis, urging the group to immediately and unconditionally release all detained staff from the United Nations, nongovernmental organizations, and diplomatic missions.
Houthi judges have sentenced 17 individuals to death by firing squad, while three others received prison sentences for alleged espionage activities on behalf of foreign countries.
