Vershinin: International meeting on Syria in Astana Format will be at second half of current year

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin announced Saturday that the upcoming meeting in Astana Format on Syria will be held at the second half of the current year.

Vershinin said, in statements in New York, that the high level meetings of Astana Format are regularly held, adding that it is scheduled to hold the upcoming meeting at the second half of this year, but there is no specific date.

The Russian Diplomat pointed out that Astana Format enjoys high effectiveness, as meetings on the ministerial level and on the level of the special representatives of the participant countries were held within its frames.

He added that “each time, we see that this format constitutes an important factor in stabilizing the situation in regard with solving the crisis in Syria and the settlement in the region in general”.

Vershinin welcomed the recently positive development that were appeared regarding Syria, mainly, regarding strengthen its relations with other countries in the region.

The 19th international meeting on Syria in Astana Format was held in the Kazakh capital city of Astana last November.
