Washington: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly discussed bilateral relations and border and trade issues late on Wednesday during a call. According to Kuwait News Agency, State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce stated that Rubio and Joly focused on bilateral collaboration on shared global challenges, secure borders, reciprocal trade, and economic prosperity during their conversation. Rubio emphasized the significance of US-Canadian relations, highlighting that the administration of President Donald Trump will prioritize "Americans' safety and national security." Recently, new US tariffs against Canada and Mexico came into effect, following a month-long postponement aimed at reaching a mutual agreement to prevent their implementation. Unfortunately, no consensus was reached. In response to the US tariffs, resigned Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that Canada would impose counter-tariffs on US imports if the US continues to enforce tariffs on Cana dian goods.
