Washington: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio underlined on Friday that there should be a reliable global supply chain for critical minerals. Rubio made the remarks while addressing a ministerial meeting on critical minerals, held at the US State Department, with the participation of more than 50 countries.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Rubio emphasized the importance of having a dependable global supply chain for critical minerals and processed and finished materials, highlighting its crucial role in modern global operations. He pointed out that the current concentration of supply in the hands of a single country poses significant risks, including potential geopolitical leverage and susceptibility to disruptions, such as pandemics or political instability.
Rubio further stressed the necessity of diversifying and securing supply chains for critical minerals worldwide. He noted the increasing global recognition of this need, asserting the importance of creating a stable and varied supply network. Additionally, Rubio mentioned that some countries possess critical minerals but face challenges in mining them due to foreign competition.
