US Special Envoy Perriello Embarks on Diplomatic Tour to Address Sudan Conflict.

Nairobi: US Special Envoy for Sudan, Perriello Travels, has embarked on a significant diplomatic tour to Kenya, Uganda, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt in a concerted effort to address the ongoing conflict in Sudan. The conflict, which erupted in April 2023, involves hostilities between the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Force (RSF), and has drawn international attention due to its impact on regional stability. According to Kuwait News Agency, the US State Department announced late Wednesday that Perriello's tour commenced on October 30. During this tour, he is scheduled to engage in discussions with Sudanese civil society leaders, government officials from the host countries, and multilateral leaders. The primary focus of these discussions will be on facilitating immediate humanitarian access across all regions of Sudan, emphasizing the protection of civilians, and expediting efforts to bring an end to the conflict. The State Department further highlighted that Perriello intends to reaffirm the US government' s unwavering commitment to supporting a transition to civilian governance in Sudan. This transition is seen as crucial for allowing the Sudanese people to determine their political future. The conflict has persisted as previous negotiations aimed at reaching a political agreement failed, particularly concerning the integration of the RSF into the national army as a precursor to forming a civilian government.
