Washington: US President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that the United States will undertake "very serious retaliation" following the killing of two US soldiers and a civilian interpreter in an ambush in Syria. The attack, which occurred on Saturday, was executed by a lone ISIS gunman, leaving three others wounded, as confirmed by US Central Command and the Department of Defense.
According to Kuwait News Agency, President Trump addressed reporters at the White House, expressing the nation's grief over the loss of "three great American patriots" while offering prayers for the wounded individuals, who are reportedly "doing pretty well." He emphasized the collaboration between US and Syrian forces, noting that the new Syrian president is "devastated by what happened." Trump reiterated the ongoing efforts against ISIS in the region, highlighting the soldiers' mission in support of counter-ISIS and counter-terrorism operations.
Sean Parnell, chief spokesperson for the Pentagon, stated on X that the identities of the deceased are being withheld until their next of kin have been notified. In addition, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth confirmed that the attacker was neutralized by partner forces.
