US Official Highlights Increased European, Canadian Spending as Key to NATO Partnership

Brussels: US Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Elbridge Colby stated on Thursday that increased military spending by European countries and Canada will make NATO allies "more equal partners" within the alliance. Colby's remarks came ahead of a meeting of NATO defense ministers in Brussels, emphasizing the shift towards a more balanced partnership in NATO.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Colby noted that by 2025, there was a genuine commitment for Europe to lead the conventional defense of the alliance. He highlighted the importance of moving forward together in a pragmatic manner, with a strong foundation for joint efforts. Colby stressed the significance of a NATO based on partnership rather than dependency, aligning with the original purpose for which the alliance was established.
