Washington: Spokesperson of the Department of State Tammy Bruce said the US administration is monitoring the actions of Syria's interim authorities across a number of issues as it weighs the future of sanctions on the Arab country after the ouster of Al-Assad regime. According to Kuwait News Agency, Bruce emphasized the necessity of local ownership and broad societal support for stability in Syria and the region, citing recent deadly violence on the western coast as a demonstration of the challenges faced. "Long-term stability and prosperity for the people of Syria requires a government that protects all Syrians equally," she stated, referring to the recent conflicts between Al-Assad loyalists and the new government forces. Bruce made these remarks in response to inquiries about a bipartisan call by US Senator Elizabeth Warren and Representative Joe Wilson for updates on what they termed as "the outdated sanctions" on Syria, advocating for reconstruction and the promotion of stability in the Middle East reg ion. She further highlighted the aspiration of the United States to see Syria living peacefully with its neighbors, upholding human rights, and preventing terrorists from using its territories as a safe haven. The spokesperson added that the US administration has clear-cut and understandable standards for assessing the general actions of the interim authorities of Syria.
