US, KRG Emphasize Urgent Resumption of Oil Exports from Iraqi Kurdistan

Erbil: Prime Minister of Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Masrour Barzani met with Charge d'Affaires of the US Embassy in Iraq, Steven Fagin, in Erbil on Saturday to discuss the relations between the Kurdistan Region and the United States. The discussions, also attended by US Consul General in the Kurdistan Region Steve Bitner, centered around the current situation in Iraq and the broader region.

According to Kuwait News Agency, both parties highlighted the pressing need to resume the oil exports from the Kurdistan region in northern Iraq through the Turkish port of Ceyhan without further delay. The ongoing suspension of these exports has significant implications for the region's economy.

Additionally, the US and KRG representatives condemned the recent drone attacks targeting Kurdistan Region's oil fields and energy infrastructure. They called for an immediate cessation of these acts of sabotage, which have disrupted operations. The region's oil fields have suffered 15 drone attacks in the past two weeks, halting the export of approximately 200,000 barrels per day.
