US envoy meets Palestinian PM, other officials ahead of Sharm El-Sheikh meeting

RAMALLAH, March 15 (KUNA) — US Special Envoy for Palestinian Affairs Hady Amro held two separate meetings in Ramallah Wednesday with Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh and Secretary General of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Executive Committee Hussein Al-Sheikh ahead of a planned meeting due in Egypt’s resort of Sharm El-Sheikh Sunday.

In a statement, Shtayyeh said he discussed with Amr the necessity of pressing Israel to halt its unilateral measures and be committed to the signed agreements.

During the meeting, he affirmed that Palestinian people are suffering unprecedented pressures due to Israel’s amounting violations, increasing settlement, murder, destruction of houses and confiscating territories.

He referred to financial position and increased illegal cutting off Palestinian taxes as well as a decline in foreign financial aid and inflation.

Meanwhile, Al-Sheikh met with Amr in the presence of Presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh to discuss some issues, and regional and international dossiers as well as bilateral relations.

The meeting was held in preparation for the gathering due in Sharm El-Sheikh next Sunday.

Al-Aqaba meeting held on February 26 featured Jordanian, Palestinian, Egyptian, American and Israeli officials.

During the gathering, the conferees agreed on stopping settlement activities, Israel’s daily incursions of Palestinian areas to achieve calm during the holy month of Ramadan. However, the Israeli government did not abide by the agreement and continued incursions as well as crimes against Palestinian people. (end) nq.fas.hm
