US Approves $322 Million Military Sales to Ukraine

Washington: The US Department of State has announced the approval of two potential foreign military sales to Ukraine, with a combined total value of $322 million.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the first deal includes the HAWK Phase III Missile System and related equipment, estimated at $172 million. The Government of Ukraine has requested various sustainment articles and services for the HAWK missile system, which encompass five-ton cargo trucks, spare parts, refurbishment, and system overhaul of HAWK air defense fire units. Additionally, the package includes tool kits, test equipment, support equipment, technical documentation, training, and both U.S. Government and contractor technical assistance.

In another statement, the State Department has also approved a proposed sale to Ukraine of Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicles and related maintenance equipment, estimated at $150 million. This includes equipment and services for refurbishing the vehicles, technical assistance, training, and logistics support. The sale aims to bolster Ukraine's capability to conduct self-defense and regional security missions, addressing an urgent need to enhance local sustainment capabilities.

The improved maintenance and repair capabilities are expected to enhance battlefield effectiveness by enabling a more resilient repair cycle, thus increasing operational rates while reducing logistical and financial burdens. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency has forwarded the necessary certifications to Congress for approval, as per the statement.
