The United States announced Friday declared the provision of additional humanitarian aid to Ukraine, amounting to USD 205 million, which includes funding for providing shelter, food, drinking water, and essential services through international and nongovernmental organizations.
U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said in a statement that the new aid comes within the framework of “our support for those affected by Russia’s brutal and unjustified war against Ukraine,” referring to the Russian military operation in Ukraine that has been going on since February of last year.
He emphasized that U.S. humanitarian assistance to the people of Ukraine “provides critical support, including food, safe drinking water, protection services, education, livelihoods, legal assistance, shelter, health care, and more, through our international and nongovernmental partners in the region.” It also helps “victims of conflict maintain contact with separated family members and promotes family reunification when possible.” Blinken noted that the new American initiative raised Washington’s total aid to Ukraine since the beginning of the current fiscal year 2023 to more than USD 605 million. He welcomed the contributions of other donors to the response to this crisis and urged more donors to “provide generous support to the grave humanitarian needs in Ukraine and the region.”
