Kuwait city: The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) warned on Friday that Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon overnight pose a direct threat to the 'fragile stability' achieved last November.
According to Kuwait News Agency, UNIFIL stated that the strikes were a blatant violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and undermine civilians' confidence in a peaceful solution. The statement highlighted that peacekeepers at two sites were forced to relocate for safety, while the attacks dangerously endangered Lebanese soldiers, UN personnel, and civilians.
UNIFIL has urged Israel to halt further strikes and fully withdraw from Lebanese territory, emphasizing that all parties must avoid violations or actions that risk escalation. The organization stressed the importance of full adherence to Resolution 1701 and the cessation of hostilities agreement, warning that continued escalation threatens the progress made toward stability.
Southern Lebanon witnessed multiple Israeli air raids Thursday night on several villages, which violated the ceasefire agreement that came into effect last November.
