Beirut: The UN International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) affirmed on Wednesday that children in Lebanon continue to be exposed to violence and fear, even during a ceasefire, urging all parties to respect the agreement.
According to Kuwait News Agency, a statement by UNICEF Representative in Lebanon, Marcoluigi Corsi, highlighted that deadly attacks continue to threaten children in Lebanon, stressing that every child has the right to grow up safe, protected, and free from harm. Corsi noted that since the ceasefire was announced one year ago, the attacks have resulted in the deaths of more than 13 children, with 146 others injured, as reported by the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health.
UNICEF urged all parties to respect the ceasefire and take immediate action to end and prevent violations against children, uphold their rights, and comply with international law, Corsi added. He emphasized that children in Lebanon are still far from being safe, underscoring the need for protection, psychological support, and an environment where their rights are guaranteed, not threatened.
Israeli occupation forces continue targeting towns, vehicles, and motorcycles in southern Lebanon and have recently escalated their attacks despite the ceasefire agreement that started on November 27 of last year.
