UNGA Adopts New Resolution for Peace in Ukraine

New york: The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has adopted a new resolution supporting lasting peace in Ukraine and calling for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the resolution was adopted with 107 votes in favor, 12 against, and 51 abstentions during the UNGA's 11th Emergency Special Session, marking the 4th anniversary of the Ukraine crisis. The resolution demands an immediate, full, and unconditional ceasefire between the Russian Federation and Ukraine, advocating for a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in accordance with international law, including the UN Charter.

In a speech delivered on her behalf by Cape Verde's Permanent Representative to the UN, Tania Romualdo, UNGA President Annalena Baerbock highlighted the ongoing impact of the war in Ukraine on its citizens. Baerbock noted that 2025 has been the deadliest year for civilians since the conflict began, citing the systematic destruction of infrastructure in Ukrainian cities. She reminded the assembly that the UNGA had previously adopted eight resolutions urging the immediate, complete, and unconditional withdrawal of Russian forces from Ukraine.
