Port sudan: The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has made an urgent appeal for USD 116 million under the 2026 Humanitarian Response Plan. The organization warns that crucial reproductive, maternal health, and psychosocial support services for thousands of conflict-affected women and girls in Sudan are threatened by a severe funding shortage.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Fabrizia Falcione, UNFPA Country Representative in Sudan, addressed journalists in Geneva via an online briefing from Port Sudan. She disclosed that the agency received only 42 percent of the necessary humanitarian funds in 2025. This deficit has already led to the closure of several Safe Spaces for Women and Girls, a reduction in essential supplies, and the disruption of vital reproductive health services across Sudan.
Falcione emphasized that the ongoing conflict is undermining the health rights and dignity of women and girls, with 12.1 million individuals at risk of gender-based violence. She called on the international community to take immediate action to prevent further harm.
