El-fasher: The United Nations warned against continued acts of violence targeting civilians by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the Sudanese city of El-Fasher, saying that such actions have prevented the delivery of life-saving aid.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Deputy Spokesperson of the UN Secretary General, Farhan Haq, said late Monday that civilians were unable to leave the city due to the killings of hundreds, including humanitarian workers, and that many people remain trapped, unable to contact the outside world. He stressed that the RSF’s hindering of efforts to deliver aid was unacceptable, insisting that aid should be delivered to those in need without obstruction.
Despite the dire situation, the UN and partners continue to provide urgent assistance, especially in the city of Tawila, Haq said, pointing out that such efforts cover only a fraction of the needs. Haq referred to the escalating violence in North and South Kordofan, which has led to widespread displacement in addition to the suffering of civilians and reports of children being killed as well as mass executions in some areas.
Meanwhile, the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) Famine Review Committee (FRC) affirmed in a statement that hunger has struck parts of Sudan and that some 21 million people were at high and severe levels of food insecurity since September.
