Cairo: The United Nations stressed on Sunday the need to work on a ceasefire in Gaza Strip, releasing hostages and ending the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories and establishing an Independent Palestinian State. This statement was made by the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Egypt, Elena Panova, during the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People Event at the Arab League's General Secretariat in Cairo. According to Kuwait News Agency, Panova emphasized the UN's commitment to annually celebrating the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, underscoring the organization's solidarity with Palestinians and their rights. Panova noted that a year later, Gaza remains in ruins, with tens of thousands of Palestinians, primarily women and children, having fallen victim to the conflict. She highlighted o ngoing military operations, settlement expansions, evictions, and various forms of violence by the Israeli occupation, which exacerbate the suffering and injustice faced by Palestinians. Panova stressed the importance of providing humanitarian aid through the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). Musa warned that UNRWA is under severe threat as the Israeli occupation seeks to dismantle this crucial international witness to the Palestinian refugee crisis, emphasizing the agency's role in maintaining regional stability. He also welcomed th e International Criminal Court's issuance of arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. The event, attended by various dignitaries, including Dr. Saeed Abu Ali of the Arab League, UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini, and representatives from foreign countries and international organizations, underscored full solidarity with the Palestinian struggle for freedom and independence.
