UN Officials Welcome Parties’ Approval of U.S. Plan for Gaza

Geneva: Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk have welcomed the approval by the concerned parties of the U.S. peace plan aimed at ending the war in the Gaza Strip.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Ghebreyesus expressed his appreciation for Hamas's commitment to release the hostages and the Israeli occupation's support of the U.S. peace plan for Gaza, which includes "stopping the bombing within the Strip." He highlighted that this is the closest they have been to securing peace in two years, emphasizing the urgency of the moment. Ghebreyesus noted that WHO has been the primary provider of medicines and medical supplies in Gaza since before the conflict and throughout the war, and they will continue to support the delivery of health services to all in need. He reiterated WHO's commitment to collaborating with all partners to rebuild Gaza's health system.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk expressed hope that the international momentum towards ending the war in Gaza will lead to a permanent cessation of hostilities, followed by recovery and reconstruction in line with international humanitarian and human rights law, and the two-state solution. Turk urged all parties and influential states to seize this opportunity to end the suffering in Gaza, ensure the release of hostages, and provide humanitarian aid to the Strip.
