UN official hails Kuwait’s generous contributions to refugee agency

– The UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi thanked Kuwait’s for its generous contributions and fulfillment of commitments towards the UN refugee agency and support to humanitarian action worldwide.

This came during a meeting with Kuwait’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in Kuwait Tuesday.

He commended Kuwait’s strenuous efforts to help people in distress everywhere which embodied the universal human values and the UN proclamation of Kuwait as a humanitarian center and to the late Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as a humanitarian leader.

The UN official hailed the continued cooperation and coordination between Kuwait and the UNHCR’s as well as Kuwait’s backing to the UN agency’s humanitarian projects and programs and its assistance to refugees across the world.

He briefed Kuwait’s top diplomat on the UNHCR’s efforts to support and meet the needs of refugees facing harsh living and economic conditions due to conflicts and wars in Yemen, Syria, Afghanistan, Ethiopia and Ukraine.

For his part, the foreign minister extolled the noble role played by the UNHCR’s in supporting and caring for refugees and displaced people worldwide.

He affirmed that Kuwait’s foreign policy prioritizes contribution to the international humanitarian action.

Sheikh Salem lauded the cooperation between Kuwait and the UN agency in this regard.

He highlighted Kuwait’s important role in humanitarian work in the world, stressing that Kuwait backed all regional and international endeavors aiming to promote international security and people.

The foreign minister called on the international community to shoulder its responsibility towards finding viable solutions to refugee crises and setting new creative mechanisms to for effective response to conflicts and crises that cause people’s displacement and suffering.
