UN official commends Kuwait’s keenness on nat’l development plan, UNSDGs

The Head of the UN Mission for Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat) in Kuwait and the GCC region, Dr. Amira Al-Hassan affirmed that Kuwait was keen on achieving both the goals set by the Kuwait Vision 2035 and the 17 items within the 2030 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Speaking to KUNA, Dr. Al-Hassan attested that Kuwait was a leading country when it came to urban and infrastructural development, commending Kuwait for being swift in presenting its urban development report.

On his part, Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development Dr. Khaled Mahdi stressed that his country was keen on working with UN entities to achieve the goals of both parties.

The council and UN-Habitat had worked together on the second voluntary report concerning the State of Kuwait, which focused the nation’s new urban development strategy in the last four years.

The report documented Kuwait’s achievements, which came in line with Vision 2035, he indicated, noting that Kuwait had invested in urban development via utilizing various open lands in the country.

He added that issues concerning the environment were also included in the report, which highlighted current efforts to decrease carbon emissions by 2035.

Kuwait’s efforts to diversify its energy resources were also mentioned in the report, Dr. Mahdi said, pointing out that his country was seeking low carbon emission energy sources
