UN Official Commends Kuwait’s Initiatives for Women and Disability Support

Kuwait city: Acting Director General of the Public Authority for Disability Affairs (PADA), Dr. Dalal Al-Othman, highlighted the interest of UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women and girls, Reem Al-Salem, in the contributions of women in disability care centers and the Authority's initiatives in this domain. Al-Othman underscored the comprehensive services PADA offers to persons with disabilities and their caregivers, addressing needs from birth through old age.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Al-Othman elaborated on the establishment of the "Friends of the Disabled" team, which is empowered with judicial authority to evaluate and respond to the needs of persons with disabilities and women, providing legal protection and support for victims of violence. She emphasized PADA's commitment to societal integration for persons with disabilities, focusing on creating inclusive environments and offering job opportunities to empower them as contributing members of the community.

In addition, Dalal Al-Marri, Director of Disability Care Centers, remarked on Al-Salem's visit to the South Sabahiyah Rehabilitation Center as a significant occasion to present the extensive services available, encompassing psychological, medical, social, and residential care tailored for all age groups and types of disabilities. Al-Marri noted Kuwait's ongoing expansion of care services through both residential and day centers, with South Sabahiyah serving the Ahmadi and Mubarak Al-Kabeer governorates, while other centers cater to the rest of the regions.
